The Duchess of Cornwall to visit the Show
1st May 2008HRH The Duchess of Cornwall is to attend the first day of the Devon County Show on Thursday, May 15 at Westpoint, Exeter.
Her Royal Highness is President of the Devon County Agricultural Association this year and enjoyed a very successful visit three years ago with HRH The Prince of Wales, who is Patron of the Association.
The Show, now in its 113th year, attracts competitors from Devon and the South West, all anxious to make their mark in the first major agricultural show of the year. Run by a small professional team, it relies on hundreds of volunteers who willing give their time and expertise to ensure the biggest
event in the county calendar continues to flourish.
Show Secretary Ollie Allen said: “We are honoured and delighted that our President is able to attend the Show. We are very much looking forward to introducing Her Royal Highness to some of the very many people who come together in May to give us an insight into their rural life whether that’s breeding livestock, lace-making or producing cheese!”
She added that they were especially pleased to welcome Her Royal Highness during the Year of Food and Farming, a national campaign to help children find out more about the countryside and where their food comes from. The campaign, whose patron is The Prince of Wales, is one of the central themes running throughout the Show.
The Devon County Show is a celebration of rural living in Devon – from magnificent livestock to fabulous food and drink, beautiful flowers and gardens - and is a spectacular showcase of country living. There is also non-stop entertainment, including thrills and spills with motorcycle stunt riders amongst others.
