Tom Parker Bowles judges sausages at Show
12th May 2008The celebrity judge of this year’s Spring Sausage Competition at the Devon County Show is food writer and local produce champion Tom Parker Bowles. The Show is held at Westpoint near Exeter on May 15-17.
Tom is the son of this year’s Show President, HRH The Duchess of Cornwall. Unfortunately he will miss the visit to the Show of his mother, who is attending on Thursday.
As a judge of this popular competition held on Friday he will taste between 30 and 40 sausages all made by local producers using locally sourced pork.
Competition organiser and Show Steward Deborah Custance-Baker
said she was delighted that Tom was a judge. “He’s young, interested in real food and not afraid to speak his mind!” she said.
“I just hope that he comes to the Show nice and hungry because even tasting just a little bit of each of the sausages is pretty filling!
“Real sausages are much tastier than any others,” she added. “The animals are traditionally reared and the meat is allowed to mature, giving the sausages a fuller flavour. These are a real meal instead of just a filler!”
Tom is fast becoming one of the UK's best known food writers with columns in The Mail on Sunday and Tatler and he has published several books about food. He is described as a passionate advocate of ethically grown and reared food and is a champion of local British produce.
At the Show he will also be signing copies of his latest book – The Year of Eating Dangerously: A Global Adventure in Search of Culinary Extremes.
The Spring Sausage Competition is judged on Friday morning.
