Artist in Residence at Show

09 May 2011

Artist Nina Squire will be drawing on her love of the local countryside when she comes to the Devon County Show, Exeter on May 19-21 as an artist in residence.

She’ll be sketching some of the Show’s great characters – two legged and four legged – while chatting to visitors.

She said: “I love the fact I have a mobile studio! It's a great opportunity to be part of such a popular event.  I've always enjoyed working outside and being brought up in North Devon means I became used to being surrounded by farmyard characters.

“My art career started with a love of horses and dogs, both of which were a large part of my farming upbringing as I was either with them or drawing them. As an artist I like to create an image that makes the viewer smile, either through capturing their pets’ character or a farmyard scene that amuses the viewer.

Nina is also an artist in residence at Larkhill racecourse and her work hangs in houses from Dorset to America and many places in-between.

She added: “I'm looking forward to searching out some new characters for a new series of greetings cards, so if you have a characterful pet or quirky photo please come and have a chat or take a look at my website www.thepastelartist.co.uk

Nina never travels anywhere without her camera, which she describes as a sketch book for a busy artist, and has been known to stop the car, leap out and snap a quirky cow or local scene, to later make into a painting.

The Devon County Show, now in its 116th year, boasts livestock, food and drink, a flower and garden marquee and lots of family entertainment on the 93 acre site.

Entertainment includes the dare-devil Bolddog Lings motorcycle display team, music from the bandstand, comedy robot Titan and a 7-a-side rugby tournament in the Sainsbury’s Arena.

Once again children go free on Saturday and, for the first time, this year senior citizens are eligible for the buy-one-get-one-free offer on all three days of the Show as long as they buy the tickets before Wednesday 11th May. Additional savings are available on tickets bought in advance.
