Exmouth Come to Life press release: Join the Exmouth charabanc

09 May 2011

The people who took Exmouth, including the beach, to the Devon County Show in 2010 have had an even better idea this year. They’re celebrating New Year’s Eve, complete with fancy dress, Big Ben’s chimes and live entertainment, on the beach at midday on all three days of the show. The party’s at stand 384 on 19, 20 and 21 May at Westpoint, and you’re invited!

Exmouth’s costumed New Year’s Eve revellers will have a perfect way of getting to and from the Show – Stagecoach has laid on a regular hourly bus service from Exmouth Bus Station to Westpoint and back during the show. The bus will leave Exmouth on the half-hour from 08.30 to 17.30, stopping at the Saddlers Arms, Lympstone and the St George & Dragon at Clyst St George. It will leave Westpoint on the hour from 09.00 to 18.00 for the return journey.

The Beach to Beach Bus (service number 59) will, weather permitting, be an open-top charabanc, and as well as providing a convenient alternative to the stresses of driving and parking, it will offer entertainment while you travel, for just £1.00 per person each way – so visitors to the Exmouth enclosure will be able to take a quick trip to the seaside too!

As well as taking part in Exmouth’s daily New Year’s Eve fancy dress party alongside entertainers and visitors, over 35 local businesses will have a presence at the show, and stand number 384 will include a beach, a stage and a Leisure East Devon sports enclosure which will be packed with activity all day, every day.

Amongst the many entertainers, you may spot some of Exmouth’s very own celebrities, including the Town Crier who is in charge of the countdown to midday. The Exmouth Shanty Men will be returning after their triumphant TV appearance at last year’s show, samba band Street Heat will be wowing the crowds, and you can expect to see everything from an Elvis impersonator to stiltwalkers.
