FREE family day out on Devon farm

08 July 2011

Some of the country’s top sheep shearers will be taking part in a day of tough competitions on a Devon farm next month.

Devon County Show’s Ewe and Lamb Shearing & Dog Trials will be held at Home Farm, Sidbury, near Sidmouth on Sunday, August 14, by kind permission of Sir John and Lady Cave and Mr Alan Derryman.

Among the competitors will be Devon shearers preparing for the world championships in New Zealand next year.

Ollie Allen, Devon County Show Secretary, said: “This is a wonderfully traditional event held on a beautiful Devon farm.

“We can promise a great day out with plenty of exciting competitions and we won’t be charging visitors a penny to get in, not even for parking!”

The competitive shearing classes will attract entries from some of the most skilled craftspeople in the world.

“Devon shearers have done well in recent world championships and I look forward to seeing competitors who are likely to be challengers for future world titles.  Competitions will run all day, starting at 8.30 am,” Ollie added.

In addition to shearing, some of the county’s top shepherds will be working with their dogs in sheep dog trials.

Home Farm, Sidbury is on the A375 Honiton to Sidmouth Road. Visitors are asked to follow the road signs.
