Kirstie Allsopp launches new TV series with the Devon County Show
17 October 2011
Devon County Show is delighted that the queen of the homemade home, Kirstie Allsopp, is launching her brand new TV series on Wednesday (October 19) with a programme set at her local agricultural show.
Kirstie tests her mettle as a craftswoman and baker when she heads for the County Show held in May to test her skills in an afternoon tea competition.
Ollie Allen, Devon County Show Secretary, said: “It was lovely to work with Kirstie and all her production team by setting up a special baking competition within the Show itself. Lots of people entered the competitions and hundreds of visitors loved seeing Kirstie in action in the pretty ‘Afternoon Tea’ marquee.
“Kirstie is a terrific enthusiast both for craft and the people who work in traditional rural industries in Devon. Her passion, enthusiasm and skill came through during filming and we’re really looking forward to seeing the programme.”
In the first of the nine-part series - Kirstie’s Handmade Britain - Kirstie perfects her scones and homemade jam, and her chosen afternoon tea patisserie, kumquat éclairs.
With days before the County Show she decided to enter a second baking competition - the single cake competition - where she created a Caribbean fruit cake. Only the judges – Devon County Show’s Celia Hyland and Becky Sheaves from the Western Morning News - and fellow competitors know how she gets on.
“Did Kirstie bite off more than she could chew?” added Ollie Allen. “All will be revealed on Wednesday evening!”
Kirstie's Handmade Britain is on Channel 4 on Wednesdays from 19th October at 8pm.
