Dame Hannah Rogers Charity
Dame Hannah Rogers Charity (Hannahs) is a pioneering charity, founded in Devon that has worked with and championed disadvantaged and vulnerable children, young people and adults with a range of disabilities for 250 years.
Working across two sites in Ivybridge and Seale Hayne near Newton Abbot and with far-reaching impact across our County, we support and care for children and young people who have a range of disabilities including cerebral palsy, learning difficulties, acquired brain injuries, and genetic disorders.
Our mission is simple - to empower, advocate and enrich the lives of children and adults with a range of disabilities.
At our Ivybridge centre, we provide care, respite, education and support through our School, Children’s Home, Respite Centre and ‘Hannahwood’ – a complex of purpose built bungalows that enables young adults between the ages of 19 and 25 to live as independently as possible.
At our community social enterprise project at Seale Hayne, we provide individuals with a range of physical and learning disabilities the opportunity to grow as individuals, develop new skills, make new friends and provide a community space that is free from judgement.
There are only five other provisions in the country that are able to offer the level and quality of education, therapy and care which we deliver at Hannahs, yet it is desperately needed. In the UK, 77% of young people with disabilities say they feel lonely all, some, or most of the time. 29% of people with disabilities report that they are only able to meet up with friends once a month or less, whilst 6% say they have no friends at all - and this is something we want to change for children and young adults with disabilities across our County and beyond.
At Hannahs, we believe that everyone, no matter what their ability, should be able to enjoy the kind of experiences many of us take for granted, like learning, spending the day out with friends, and taking part in fun activities. We help those feeling isolated by providing them with a supportive and welcoming community, and with a sense of choice and independence.
Working with our partners, we support more than 1000 children and young adults every year, whilst providing vital support to their families. For our children, adults, staff and volunteers, Hannahs is truly a special community to be part of – one where our young people are able to reach their full potential without judgement or limit.
