Gordon Newton MBE

The Devon County Agricultural Association (DCAA) was very sad to hear of the passing of their esteemed member Mr Gordon Newton MBE on Friday, August 25.

Gordon became involved in the Show during his 50-year career at the University of Exeter.   He created the University’s glorious competitive displays in the Flower & Garden marquee at the Show which won more than 40 prizes during his involvement. He became a steward of the flower show in 1983, and was Chief Steward between 2003 and 2015.

Show Secretary Ollie Allen described him as "a huge character with a huge heart and a wonderful sense of humour.   Definitely the ‘Alan Titchmarsh’ of the Devon County Show.”

The DCAA's deepest sympathies go to his family at this difficult time.
