CHICKS is a children’s charity that provides free respite breaks for disadvantaged children from all over the UK, at our three retreats in Devon, Cornwall and Derbyshire. For the children we help, a CHICKS break imparts new confidence, nurtures self-esteem, makes happy childhood memories and sparks new enthusiasm for life.

The children we support come from a huge variety of backgrounds. Many are living in poverty or are young carers for parents or siblings, whilst others have been victims of bullying, abuse or bereavement. The one thing they all have in common is that they would benefit from some time away from their circumstances and that – without CHICKS – they wouldn’t have any sort of holiday during the year.

Every year, we support hundreds of children from Devon, giving them the chance to enjoy the beautiful countryside that is right on our doorstep. We regularly give children the opportunity to enjoy experiences for the first time – like climbing a tree, paddling in the sea or walking on the moors.

Each child leaves CHICKS with a Memory Bag, containing mementoes of their break such as photo compilations and their diary of the week. They are also given a freepost envelope so they can write back to us. We reply to every letter we receive and include another freepost envelope so the child can write back again - this means communication can go on for as long as the child wants or needs.

CHICKS receives no government funding and relies entirely on generous donations to provide its vital breaks. We’re delighted to be the official Charity of the Year at the 2017 Devon County Show!

You’ll find the CHICKS stand in Avenue F. We’re part of the family friendly trail, so there will be activities for children, as well as the opportunity to learn more about what we do and find out how you can get involved. Plus, there will be the chance to win some very exciting prizes!
