THE HUNT IS ON TO FIND DEVON'S FAVOURITE TREE

To mark 100 years of the Forestry Commission, this year’s Devon County Show is on the hunt to find Devon’s favourite tree.

The initiative has been spearheaded by Sir Harry Studholme Bt DL, the Commission’s Chairman as well as the Devon County Agricultural Association’s new Show President.

Your nomination should include:

  1. An image of your favourite tree
  2. The variety (if known)
  3. 100 words to support your nomination. This should be about why you love this tree.  We are looking for really good reasons, such as you remember climbing it as a child and it offering a wonderful place to hide away, it’s how you imagine a mythical tree to be shaped or it’s got an intricate gnarly trunk in which you can see all sorts of fantastical and vivid shapes.
  4. Where the tree is.

Please either send your photo and description as a message to our Facebook page @creamofdevon or e mail us at [email protected]

Nominations must be with us by May 1st.

Once all the nominations have been received, the best 10 will be judged by a Panel including Sir Harry, Devon County Show Manager, Sam Mackenzie-Green and Ray Bater, Showground Manager.  The final 10 will be uploaded to the website and the public will be invited to vote for the overall winner between May 3rd and the May 9th

A link to the page of finalists will be posted on all Devon County Show’s social media channels (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram) #cream of devon, @devoncountyshow

The winning tree will be announced on 16th May.

The  nominator of the winning tree will win two VIP tickets to Devon County Show.  These will permit two adults to the show with access all day to the member’s area.  The winner will also be invited to attend the ceremonial planting of a Lucombe Oak - the 100th tree to be planted on the Devon County Showground as part of the Forestry Commission’s centenary celebrations which will take place the day before the Devon County Show officially starts, on the 15th May.
